Invisalign treatment is a revolutionary modern orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth. Invisalign braces use a set of clear aligners which over time works to help in straightening teeth. These aligners gradually adjust the position and alignment of teeth in order to create a straight and attractive smile. No metal braces or metal wires to be seen!

As Invisalign aligners are transparent, you can straighten your teeth without feeling self-conscious – and if you have an important meeting or event coming up, you can always remove the aligners for that short time. You can achieve a beautiful and straight smile without anyone noticing you’re undergoing dental treatment.

What are the benefits of Invisalign over traditional braces?

By far the major reason why patients get Invisalign is because they are almost invisible! Invisalign aligners are clear, and so are difficult to see, unlike traditional braces with wires.

The aligners are removable. This makes it easy to take them out to eat and drink. It also makes it much easier brush and floss your teeth. This stops plaque from getting trapped on your teeth. It also means you never have to worry about if food is stuck in your braces – simply eat, rinse and pop them back in.

Invisalign works faster than traditional braces. This reduction in treatment time means that most treatments range between 3 months to 12 months. It is a quick treatment to get the straight teeth and confident smile that you’ve always wanted.

Invisalign FAQs

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment similar to braces that helps straighten and adjust your teeth to create the perfect smile.

Unlike braces, Invisalign does not use wires or metal brackets glued to your teeth, but instead are a series of removable, clear retainers.

How does Invisalign work?

Over the course of your treatment, you are given a series of retainers that you spent a set amount of time wearing before moving to the next one.

Over time, these Invisalign retainers help straighten your teeth to mould them into the perfect smile.

How long does Invisalign take?

Like any dentistry treatment, each patient can have a different experience depending on how much work their teeth require. How long Invisalign takes can depend on a range of factors, but generally speaking treatment plans can range from 3 months to 12 months.

Your dentist will assess your needs and give you an initial timeline estimate and as your treatment progresses, let you know if this timeline needs to be altered to get the best results.

How do you clean Invisalign?

Thanks to the fact that Invisalign retainers are removable, they are convenient and easy to clean. Simply use a clear anti bacterial soap and a soft bristle toothbrush, run your Invisalign retainer under cool or warm water and clean them as needed.

Be careful not to use hot water as it runs the risk of melting your aligner, and also avoid using coloured soaps to ensure they don’t stain your aligners or make them ‘cloudy’ looking – this ruins the benefits of them being invisible!

What does Invisalign look like?

As the name suggests, Invisalign are nearly invisible retainers. This means they are clear, plastic pieces that look like mouth guards. An initial mould is taken of your teeth to create your personalised plan of Invisalign retainers to help gently push and straighten your teeth. They are hard to detect when they are in your mouth, and when you eat or drink can be taken out and left in their carrier case..

Are Invisalign aligners comfortable to wear?

Yes, the aligners are comfortable to wear. They are made of a smooth, clear plastic material that is custom-fitted to each patient’s teeth, reducing discomfort and irritation.Unlike braces, there are no brackets or wires that can rub against the mouth and cause irritation. In addition, the aligners are removable, allowing patients to eat, drink, and brush their teeth with ease. Overall, the aligners are designed for comfort during the teeth straightening process.

How often do I need to wear my aligners?

To achieve the best results, Invisalign should be worn for 20-22 hours per day. This means that they should only be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

It is important to follow this guideline closely to ensure that the teeth are gradually shifted into their correct positions. Failure to wear the aligners for the recommended amount of time can prolong treatment time and may even result in the need for additional aligners.

Can I play sports or musical instruments while wearing aligners?

Yes, you can play sports or musical instruments while wearing the aligners.
The aligners are designed to fit snugly over the teeth, so they should not interfere with most physical activities or musical instruments. However, it is recommended that you wear a mouthguard while playing contact sports to protect both your teeth and the aligners. In some cases, playing certain wind instruments may require a short adjustment period to get used to wearing the aligners, but most patients find that they adapt quickly.
